Background Info I worked in the NHS for 37 years at local, regional and national level.  Much of my time was committed to developing mental health services.  Given that 1 in 4 of us will develop problems that will adversely affect our mental health, I am a strong advocate for prevention, compassionate care and a focus on recovery.  I am a firm believer in partnership working.

Why did you become a Governor? My daughter received support from this service when she was too ill to attend mainstream school.  I saw at first-hand the value of their focus on developing an individual pathway for each child and supporting pupils to become resilient problem solvers to deal with the challenges of life.  I want to make sure that parents in Sandwell are aware of the service that is available to their children.  I also want it to continue developing and provide an outstanding service to more pupils who have social, emotional, physical or psychological problems which prevent them accessing mainstream schooling. To be the representative for all staff at Albright Education Centre. I was interested in pursuing a voluntary role that would combine my experience in health and education while allowing me to develop my skills in governance.

To support the Centre.

I believe that my experience of the leadership at Q3 Tipton would help me to contribute positively to the governing body of Albright Education Centre.  I have a good understanding of our local community which could potentially be beneficial for the leadership of Albright. I am passionate about young people being given the best possible opportunities to succeed.  I have worked closely with Albright in my current role and I truly value the incredible work that they do.  It seemed like a wonderful opportunity to support the young people, families and staff that use the Centre. Passionate about supporting other parents with children with additional needs as I have personal experience in and a child in the school.
Any special interests / hobbies / relevant experience? I have a good knowledge of mental health issues in young people and what service provision should be available.  I have a particular interest in chronic fatigue in young people.  I have some experience in helping young people to apply for and obtain appropriate benefits to help with daily living.

Teacher.

Previous parent governor at another local authority school.

I am chair of the executive committee of a large Scout group in Wolverhampton where my three children are members.

Head Teacher

18 years leadership experience

Sport I am a keen sports fan although I'd perhaps better not mention my team! Sport and reading
How can you help the Centre?

As a health planner I am used to reading and absorbing complicated information and asking questions of professionals.  I hope I can support and challenge staff to develop the best service for pupils.  I hope to use the skills and experience I developed in my working life to ensure that money is well spent.

As a prarent of a child with long term health issues I hope I can bring that perspective.

Provide the link between staff and governors and provide information and advice from a teaching perspective. I can provide advice and support in relation to health issues that concern the school.

Experience of educational issues.

I have the interests of Albright Education Centre very much at heart and would like to be involved in the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, in whatever ways are helpful to the school community and I feel that I have the expertise and experience to enhance Albright's Governing Body. I can help by bringing the perspective of a local school that work with Albright.  I also attend meetings with Sandwell schools every three weeks and can add that perspective to discussions. To give a voice of parents.
